Fast unbemerkt hat das südliche Afrika in den letzten 2 Jahren eine grauenvolle Dürre erlebt. Wie ging die Natur mit der Krise um?

Zunächst steht bei allen Tieren die Kraft des Lebens im Mittelpunkt, und das bis zum letzten Atemzug. Kein Tier würde sich vorstellen, wie es und seine Artgenossen in dieser scheinbar trostlosen Situation zugrunde geht und demnach in Panik und künstlicher Angst handeln. Stattdessen treibt die Tiere die Lebenskraft an und erzeugt wunderbare Höchstleistungen, auch wenn diese nicht immer zum Erfolg führen. Ich habe Elefantenherden erlebt, die Angehörige zurücklassen mussten, weil sie nicht mehr die weite Strecke zur nächsten Wasserquelle schafften. Doch Natur ist ehrlich und direkt – immer wieder gibt es Tiefpunkte, die dafür sorgen dass alte und kranke Elefanten gehen und der Bestand sich auf ein Niveau einpendelt, in dem lebenswertes Leben möglich ist (wenn der Mensch und seine Gier nicht eingreifen).

Und jetzt kommt eine große Flut ins Okavango Delta und alle sind glücklich. Es ist so schön, das zu erleben!

Almost unnoticed from the world public the Southern part of Africa faced a terrible drought in the recent 2 years. How does nature handle such a crisis?

First of all, the power of life is the guideline for all the animals, even until to the last breath. No animal ever would imagine gloom and death and act accordingly. Instead the power of life and love would drive the animals to incredible records. I watched elephants who had to leave their loved once behind, as they didn’t manage the long and austere distance to the next water pool, if there was one. But nature is honest and direct. There moments from time to time, when nature decides to select old and sick elephants to level the population so that they can continue are life worth living (if man and his greed does not interfere ).

Now the flood is coming back to the Okavango Delta and happiness returns (happiness was there always, even at harshest times!). I’m so blessed to experience these!
