Aufbruch / Let’s go

Langsam heisst es Abschied nehmen von dem verrückten Löwenrudel mit 11 Babys. Ich weiss nicht, wann und ob ich das nochmals erlebe. Es war nun aber immerhin das zweite Mal… Und für die Löwenmütter ist das sowieso ein Horror:-)))) Es geht dann zurück ins Okavango Delta ins Filmcamp für weitere 7 Wochen.

Slowly I have to prepare my farewell from the crazy pride of lions with 11 cubs.I don’t know if and when I will experience something like this again. It was now my second time… But for mothers this is just a nightmare;-))) We soon return into the Okavango Delta into our film-camp for another 7 weeks.

Überleben / Survival

Nur starke Löwenbabys überleben im Rudel. Da hilft selbst eine engagierte Löwenmutter nicht. Aber die neuen Löwenbabys schaffen es in beeindruckender Weise sich in das Rudel zu integrieren. Das wird einmal eine kleine und besondere Anekdote im nächsten Kinofilm..

Only the tough lion babies make it. Even a strong lion mother doesn’t really help. But these new babies accomplish a fast integration in the pride. I’m deeply impressed. This will become a very special anecdote in the next cinema movie.

Große Spannung! / Big Tension!

Es ist immer ein spannender Prozess, wenn kleine Löwenbabys in das Rudel eingeführt werden. Dieser Prozess ist vor allem dann kritisch, wenn es ältere Löwenkinder gibt, die die Neulinge als Konkurrenz sehen und sie im schlimmsten Fall sogar töten. Einen solchen Fall hatte ich einmal in der Zentralkalahari dokumentiert. In diesem Fall gibt es zum Glück genug Nahrung und damit kein Stress.

It’s always a thrilling time, when small lion babies are introduced to the pride. This process is utmost critical, if there are older kids which might perceive the new ones as competitors and might intend to kill them. I once filmed such a case in the Central Kalahari. Here the pride indulges lush conditions and the young ones are just inquisitive.

Große Überraschung / Big Surprise

Als wären 9 Kinder nicht schon genug, bringt eine Löwin schließlich weitere 2 kleine Babys ins Rudel. Die anderen Mütter und Tanten sind nicht begeistert. Die Löwenkinder allerdings schon. Endlich kann man mal so richtig an jemanden seine Wut auslassen…

As if 9 kids wouldn’t be enough, one morning a lioness brings two more tiny babies into the pride. The other mothers and aunts are not happy with this. The kids instead like it. Finally they might have two tiny objects to address all their frustration..

Wer viel spielt und frech ist muss auch mal trinken. Aber auch dabei sind die Löwenkinder eigentlich unerträglich… Immer wieder kann ich nur die Geduld der Mütter bewundern…

Streit / Quarrel

Manchmal sind die Löwenkinder dermaßen aufgebracht, dass alle in dem Rudel wutentbrannt übereinander herfallen. Na, aus solchen Löwenkindern müssen doch mal tolle Löwen werden:-)

Kinderspiel / Children’s Play

Im Löwenrudel geht es weiter hoch her. Ich filme täglich wenigstens einen Teil des Rudels. Als erstes tracken wir am Morgen. Da das Rudel aber sehr groß ist, finden wir sie meistens schnell.

Mit Löwen unterwegs

In the pride of the lions is constant fuss. I film them day by day, at least a part of the pride. First we track them in the morning. As the pride is big, we find them usually very soon.

Schluss jetzt!!! / Enough!!!

„Schluss jetzt!“, schreit die Löwenmutter. „Wer in meine Zitzen beisst, kann sich die Milch sonst wo besorgen!“….. Arme Löwenmütter:-))))
